Starting up Lightwave again... Feels good

I started up Lightwave tonight. Just loaded some plugins and messed with some of the tools to make things. Here are a couple images I did. Just some tree's and the Meni things monster.

And the one with grass and the Meni Things Monster.

Just messing around and helping someone visualize something

I belong to a Lightwave group and actually helped someone with visualizing something. These will look pretty simple but once you see them it makes sense than trying to read it from a book. I also rendered this in FPrime in under 30 seconds, something Lightwave can't do very well.

Making an animation

I am making an animation at home. It is of a Covert Scanner from Star Wars Galaxies. I made the Scanner quite a while back but then did nothing with it. So since I have started opening Lightwave back up I have decided to look at some of my works to refresh my mind.

I will post the link to the animation if it turns out ok when I get home.

Did this rendering last night.

This is a power generator from the online game Star Wars Galaxies. The game is not true 3d but is close. I just made it a lot more realistic. I have also added a little animation of it rotating around. If you have Divx installed, which is a codec plugin, you can watch this. Get the plugin if you need it at www.divx.com

Here is the image.

Here is the link for the AVI for the below picture. It is only 560KB so it won't kill you to download it.

Finally opening the books again and reading them.....

I am currently reading some things in my Lightwave book to familiarize myself back with a bunch of shortcuts I forgot about. I will post screen shots as I do things.

Simple Lighting 101

I have finally gotten to lighting in my Lightwave book. This is simple but as I progress it will get better looking as I play with more settings and apply textures to it.

Day Number Three of my Tutorial Book on Lightwave

Here we go... Will be adding pictures to this as I get them done.

Sometimes I get confused with the settings on how to make a surface look the way it does. Here is an example. I forget this stuff if I don't use it everyday.

Round 4 of the Tutorial book for Lightwave

Here we go. I know I will be struggling with some of the things coming up but I will keep at it.

Many updates to come.

April 19, 2005

At it again. Woohooo!!!!!

Well here I go again. At least I am keeping up with working on my goal of Lightwave. :)

Learning how to make curves and rounding edges.

Here is a Lava Lamp albiet a simple one, but it is one all the same. Used a tutorial file to make this, and since I am getting used to the tools it only took me 15 minutes to create it.

Here is the Lava Lamp in a lighted studio look.

Learning UV Mapping

I am now in the process of learning how to map an image to parts of an object. Basically spliting the object up into surfaces and then take that information and saving it as a template. You then take that template and import it into Photoshop and use it as a layer while you paint or apply your paint texturing to it. Once done you discard that template layer and save the image as you painted it, then apply that image to the UV Map information you initially set up.

Here is a large screen shot of the modeler program in lightwave showing you on the top left how the UV Map looks and on the left how the image looks once you apply it to a the model.

Here is an example of how to make a floor plan turn into 3d. Just draw out the lines and extrude them up in simple terms.

April 21, 2005

Son Of A Gun!!!!

I have to say that creating moulding on windows is really hard, or at least the way I was doing it. I am going to be going thru the tutorial again later and see if I can make two size windows and just cut and past the moulding I make from them and paste it onto the others instead of trying to make moulding on each individual window. Good Goodness....

Well here is the finished House plan all started from a basic line drawing like a blueprint.

April 22, 2005

Been working on something special tonight.....

I decided tonight to work on some UV mapping onto some boxes. Turned out pretty good but some of the edges need work. Too sharp for old boxes. Plus the image looks a little stretched on the edges. But here ya go. Almost looks like Dynamite boxes. LOL

The One-Minute Spaceship

Here we go... I will read through the Lightwave book while I wait for some things to happen on our servers at work. When I am done I should be able to make a 'One-Minute Spaceship.'

Let see how it goes.

5 minutes later.... LOL

Here it is with a metallic finish to it. When looking at this spaceship I would probably laugh when the people that came up with the shiny chrome craft that they used in Star Wars I, II, III. This took so little to create. All you need to do is make sure that the reflective surfaces look good which isn't too hard in most 3D programs now. Oh Well here it is.

Learning how to make something out of a square box...

Today while I am sitting here at work WAITING for the network to come back online. I decided to work a little on Lightwave. Well here you have it. Something that is now starting to look like a upper torso. More updates soon.

Simple Spaceship

I made a few Spaceship renders based off of what I learned for making a 1 minute ship. This ship was made in about 1 minute and then I just rendered it with some different materials. Basically wanted to see if I could remember how to do it without opening my tutorial book again.

I have them on my mind so I am now working on a working model. :)

I have no clue why I thought of this tonight but I did and I am now going to make them dammit. LOL

Update#3

Update#4
I made a Quick Render just to try and see if they looked like a boot. I still have a long way to go and things to add to them in order for them to look like Gravity Boots. Enjoy for now.

Here is an Alien Bust that came with Lightwave but I modified it a little since I didn't like some of the surfaces that they had applied to it. Now he looks a little more ruffed up.

3d Spacemanbob

I was working on a 3D Model of Spacemanbob today and got some good practice in on making the model. The bad thing is that it has a few issues when I try to render it. I will see if I can get them straigtened out. If not I'll just start over and see how it goes the next time. The more I practice the better I get so it doesn't bother me too much to have to go from ground zero at this point.

A Special Thanks goes to my friend Mike who brought Spacemanbob to life one night a long time ago when we had a fun party.

June 5, 2005

Made my first head model last night.

It was a nice introduction to making a face. Something I never knew how to do. The bad part is that I need a lot of work to make this look better. LOL It looks ugly. But what the heck, it was my first ever tutorial on making one and it did look human in an ugly way. LOL

I thought I deleted it but here it is.

I butchered you Mike. Sorry. LOL Had to post this. I guess it just goes to show you that you should have a good picture of your friends before trying to make them into 3D.

Thats all for right now on the Brick Building in Lightwave

I am taking a break from making this Brick Building. Just need a small break from thinking how to make this. Next step is to put some steps on this sucker.

One last entry before I pass out. I had to get that doorway started, it was really bugging me having a building with no entryway. So here ya go.

Took some time to start working on something new

I am now reading a new Lightwave 3D Book called Inside Lightwave [8]. This is a good book also like the others I have been reading. I wanted something to focus my attention onto making something out of a square block. I didn't know that this would be this easy but it is. I am still learning and without this tutorial I wouldn't know where to start, but now, I am getting ideas for making other things.

Here is a model view and a semi render view. I see a few things I need to try to fix but I will work on it as soon as I can.

Giraffe Update

I have been messing with some servers all day and had to blow off some steam while one of them was working on some diagnostics for me.

Here is just a simple texture addon to the Giraffe Head that I haven't really touched since last night when I was working on some other IT stuff waiting for it to finish. LOL

Hope you enjoy it.

Giraffe Update

Here is a latest update to my Giraffe Tutorial. It isn't looking the same way as in the book but then again it probably won't since I looked at too many Giraffe pictures on the net and made a few adjustments to it. In the turtorial they want it to look cartoonish all the way. I just want the head to look more like a giraffe and will make the body more cartoonish when I get to it. Which will be pretty soon. Here is a wireframe and I will try to post a more 3Dish looking picture right after this one.

Here is a semi rendered Head with basic texture.

Giraffe Update Sunday

As I continue to work on this I gain more and more insight on how to create things. I am enjoying the tutorial that I am following even though my Giraffe isn't looking quite the same as in the book. But who cares. I need to learn this stuff.

Here is a 3D Render with no textures.

Working on a Web Page

Once again I have decided to help some people get a webpage together. Getting my talents with graphics going again. This was a first attempt at getting a basic scene done. I plan on updating this with more 3D items in it but for now they are as happy as can be with this one.

Experiment in Spacemanbob Rocketship

I am going to experiment with a new Entry Page to the Spacemanbob.com site. Here is a concept drawing I made yesterday while sitting on the couch.

I plan on having some type of 3D Spacecraft done if I can get the lighting just right.

Stay tunned....

Spacemanbob Rocket Update

First Test Render, just trying to get a color and reflection that will look good. Next render will be with the tail fins and it a little above the ground.

Spacemanbob Rocket Update

Did some renders while waiting for some machines to finish virus scans. Here are three renders from when I added the tailfins to the Rocket. I did a couple renders to try to get the look or a glowing light behind the ship to illuminate the whole ship. I am currently rendering the final or what I hope is the final ship but if I don't like it when it is done, I'll just tweak it.

Final Rocket Update from Work

Here is the final Update from my Work Computer. I am a little dissapointed at myself for this since I didn't have all the plugins installed to make this work right. I'll try it tonight or tomorrow from a different machine.

Rocketship Update

Here are two updates to the Rocketship I have been working on. The first image is a scaled down one of the original. The second one is a link that should open a new page to show you an 800x640 version.

To see larger versions open the links below. They will open new windows.

Making more changes....

After seeing the Spacemanbob Dot Com Logo information shadow on the last link image, I have now gotten the idea to try to stencil it onto the Rocket. I'll have to go back to the books on this since I have forgotten how to do that. I'll let you know how it goes.... Also my Student worker mentioned that I should put a port hole in the ship and have the Cartoon Character Face of me sticking in it. I'll see.... Either option will take me back to the books to see where and what tools to use to make these ideas happen if they can.

But for fun... I have uploaded the 1280x1024 image of the Rocketship and am now using it as my background. Looks cool. So here ya go. Click the link and use it if you want. Just remember where you got it. :)

Old Sarge

Made this the other night while I was getting frustrated thinking about the Texas A&M Football Team. I wanted to get the Tough Look from the Old Guard here at A&M, so when you thought of us you said, "Damm those guys look tough, hope we can beat them!!"

Here ya go. I will post the small image and then a link to the larger one if you would like it desktop wallpaper version size.
