Well it happened... My Dreaded DAY OF DOOM

I never thought it would happen to me but it did. The Email Server Crashed Hard. ... So hard that it is still down as I write this blog.

I have now been working on it for 14 hours, initially trying to get a good backup but that failed twice and all of a sudden people started sending attachments out the ass and the space on the server went from 6gigs to 1 meg free... that's when the email server said See YA.... CRASH...

Needless to say I am getting calls as to when it will be back up. Considering I have never had this ever happen to me I don't know all the steps that I will need to take to get it back online. I am just going one by one in a progression towards the final goal of getting the database stable and smaller before it goes back online.

I am now going to lay down a bit since my brain really is sapped of energy. Hope it finishes part of the 5hour process I have been watching while I rest. That would be great.

Exchange Crash Update...

Not Good...

Seems that the data is there and programs that are supposes to recover email is not working like it should. Just found out that for some reason the backups look like they are good but now when we drill down to try to recover email it says that there is 0kb of data in each of the backups. Sooo.... The whole department may have to start over.

Someone's head is on a chopping block. I don't like it. Not a good weekend at all. Nope Nope Nope

Exchange Email

Well the final outcome.....

Backups failed due to corruption of database elements, which we had no clue it was happening. Also Email was only able to be recovered back to August last year. Email server is up and running now. Data has been backed up and moved off the server for safe storage.

But the calls continue to come in. WHY WHY WHY, WHY WHY WHY......... They all seem to be Tech Experts all of a sudden, when it was me asking to do some of these things in the past and got the "We don't need to spend money on that" reply.

Time for some sleep. But I am sure I will get more calls asking me WHY WHY WHY, HOW COME HOW COME HOW COME...

More Exchange Updates....

Sooo... I worked hard all weekend along with Tech Support from Microsoft and third party tech support. We got the exchange server back up and it is processing mail, has email from August. We have some projects working to try to get data from the corrupted database, but that will take a few more days. I also got email from the last month to send back to the server with the help from our spam filtering company.

You may say that we are making progress.. I agree, but some people think that it is important to BELITTLE US every chance they get. Telling how useless we are, how stupid we are, how could we not think of this, or that, and not to call people in the middle of the night to tell them not to do something, or to do something, when we have been working with just 3 hours sleep a night. And then again once some other information comes out, we are then BELITTLED so much that we act like cornered RATS, Fighting for our lives to get out, except that we don't start throwing punches. We take it for a little bit and then snap when it becomes too exaggerated, and it is to the point of either I stop this now of I walk out of the office so I don't have to listen to the constant BELITTLING. Here is what they look like when they are thinking they are trying to motivate us. Not really this person but basically when they are this mad, you sortta wonder, why am I sitting here taking this.

Yes there was a Critical Crash, Yes in Hindsight we could have done things, but we just didn't for one reason or another, or we just didn't know. Many of the other Staff have sent nothing but Thank You's for our efforts and can see that we are working on little or no sleep. I Thank those people who encourage me to go on working on this issue. I do not thank those individuals that think belittling people is the way to encourage them to do better.

You can tell I am mad, I am mad that there are people in this world that are just concerned about how they look to one personl not the greater department. And no I am not afraid to post this here. I am just writing out my frustrations with trying to do a job and getting slammed in the face with nothing but hate. A little positives go along way to help people strive to do better. Just like writing an email telling people that there is still hope of recovering more email. It Brings Hope.

To all my friends that read this. I am not a bitter person, I think you know that. I am straight forward and calm but if you push me to far I will snap and lash back at those who disrespect me. ROAR!!!!!! LOL

Have fun everyday. Just take the time to sit back and relax and enjoy something simple. It does wonders for you attitude. And thus I say to you. I am listening to some Hawiian Music, and it is making me think of a wonderful place on a tropical beach. Ahhh the wonders of a good imagination.

Now go out and have fun.

Be prepared for a funny post about having to fix things in the IT Department

I am thinking of a funny post to put an end to the Exchange saga that has made me realize some things in life.

I'll see if I can whip something up tomorrow after work.

Eve Coffee Mug

Got my Eve-Online Coffee Mug today. Bought it with the left over money I haven't spent on normal stuff for one last goodie for me.

It is Black with the White Lettering. You can see it on my desk right now but later will probably be washed. Here is what it does when you put a hot drink in it.
